Good morning, everyone! I hope everyone had a wonderful Labor Day weekend—despite the fact that the true end of summer is 9/21, I always think of this long weekend as the year’s official goodbye to beach days, cookouts, and barefoot blue jean nights.

I spent a bulk of my weekend at Bumbershoot, an amazing music/art/entertainment festival here in Seattle. Saw the likes of Gotye, Missy Higgins, Barcelona, Fruit Bats, and Civil Twilight perform. Also got in some Fred Armisen comedy action, and not only watched but also unexpectedly met these guys:

Paul Scheer and Jason Mantzoukas of the podcast “How Did This Get Made?”—and, more importantly, otherwise known as Andre and Raffi/El Cuñado from The League (if you haven’t heard of this show, do yourself a favor: check out this previous post of mine and start watching. Immediately). Anyway, I totally geeked out and gushed over how much I love The League. They told me I was sweet. It was the greatest afternoon ever. I do wish I had gotten a photo with them, or that I had begged them to please come meet my husband, who was waiting for me in the food court. Or that I had said something so ridiculously clever that they decided to induct me in their little posse of comic geniuses. I also now wish that I hadn’t been wearing my stupid straw fedora at the time—Paul Scheer wears a lot of fedoras on the show, but only because his character is a total dweeb.

But I digress. Today’ gift pick comes from a very heated debate that exploded on my Facebook wall—I was shocked, depressed, and bewildered when I found out that my husband had never heard of the children’s book If You Give a Mouse a Cookie. Now, I probably overreacted, and that statement above is a little exaggerated, as the depression levels were not quite as severe as I am making them sound (though the shock and bewilderment were definitely out in very full force). Anyway, this was one of my favorite childhood reads, and I would like to strongly recommend it here:

{If You Give a Mouse a Cookie $10.61}

Oddly, the hardcover version is cheaper than the paperback on Amazon, but I am certainly not complaining! There are also a whole host of variations on this—If You Give a Moose a Muffin, If You Give a Cat a Cupcake, and If You Give a Pig a Pancake, to name a few. However, this mouse one is the original one that started it all… and a beloved classic by many!

What were some of your favorite children’s books? Please leave comments on this one; I’m curious to know what sticks out in everyone else’s memories as unforgettable classics!
